The Westfield Theatre Group will hold auditions for its Fall 2024 production of “BirthdayCandles” by Noah Haidle on Tuesday, May 28 and Wednesday, May 29 at 7:00 PM at theWestfield Woman’s Club, 28 Court Street, Westfield, MA. The production will be directed byTom LeCourt and produced by Kelly Galanis.This poignant and funny play about the extraordinary moments that make up one woman’sordinary life explores the highlights and heartbreaks of 90 years in just 90 minutes.The show features 12 characters to be portrayed by 6 actors (3 male, 3 female). Some rolesare intentionally doubled. As the show spans a period of 90 years, the characters are presentedover a range of ages. Auditions will consist of cold readings from excerpts from the script,which will be provided at the audition.

Auditioners will likely to be asked to read multiple timesfor different characters.

Character Descriptions (in order of appearance):

Ernestine Ashworth – Travels from age seventeen to one hundred and seven. In that time she
will be a daughter, a girlfriend, a wife, a mother, a friend, a mother-in-law, a widow, a second
wife, a grandmother, a great grandmother, and a great-great grandmother.

Alice – Selfless, strong. Ernestine’s mother. Also plays Medeline and Ernie.
Kenneth – Ernestine’s awkward and annoying next door neighbor.
Matt – Ernestine’s boyfriend then husband. Rugged and handsome, hero of the high school
football team. Also plays William.
Billy – Ernestine and Matt’s son. Sensitive with an ear for music. Also plays John.
Madeline – Ernestine and Matt’s daughter. Troubled, bemused, beautiful, erudite. Also plays
Alice and Ernie.
Joan – Billy’s wife. Anxious. Also plays Alex and Beth.
Alex – Billy and Joan’s daughter. Takes no BS. Also plays Joan and Beth.
Ernie – Alex’s daughter. Ethereal and vivacious. She doesn’t walk, she glides. Also plays Alice
and Madeline.
William – Alex’s son. Grand, Also plays Matt.
John – A man woken up in the middle of the night, but very good-natured. Also plays Billy.
Beth – John’s domestic partner. She quit smoking ten years ago and hasn’t been in a good
mood since. Also plays Joan and Alex.

Rehearsals will be held on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings beginning in August 2024.Shows dates are October 18, 19, 25, and 26 at 7:30 pm, with matinee performances at 2 pm onOctober 19 and 26.Any questions regarding auditions can be directed to
