Character Breakdown:
There are 5 men's roles and 4 women's roles (ages are approximate and not set in stone):
Elaine Wheeler (age 40-55) A strong lead is needed for this role. The character goes through a gamut of emotions that need to be credible to the audience.
John Wheeler (age 45-60) a smooth, seemingly sympathetic man, who in reality is a dastardly villain.
Blanche Cooke (age 40-50) Elaine's best friend. A nurse by profession, who on the surface is caring and loyal, but who in reality is having an affair with John.
Helga (50+) The Wheeler's suspicious maid. She is loyal to Elaine (think of Rebecca's Mrs. Danvers in Hitchcock's film) and untrusting of John. Must have a credible German accent.
Vanelli (25-35) A rookie policeman. More interested in the Wheeler's art collection than in solving the alleged murder. Has a Brooklyn accent and is the show's comic relief.
Curtis Appleby (50-70) The Wheeler's eccentric neighbor. He has a savant-like memory of historical facts.
Lt. Walker (45-65) A cynical New York detective who only deals in facts.
Dr. Tracey Lake (35-65) A “psychiatrist” who probes Elaine's past to prove or disprove her mental acuity. Hired by John to have Elaine committed to a mental hospital.
Sam Hoke (50+) An irate delicantessan owner. He's crude and loud. His role is brief, but crucial.
